JACOB'S VISION ON
Boston is a city known for its diversity and large immigrant population. Immigration has contributed to Boston’s economic growth and increased tax revenue--yet the immigrant population is grossly underserved and underrepresented. It is time that we offer the same legal protections for undocumented residents as we do for the rest of the community. We should offer a pathway to documentation in the city in the form of Municipal identification, Driver’s Licenses, and Legal Aid.
Undocumented residents should also have access to comprehensive health coverage. MassHealth Limited does not cover certain healthcare procedures that leave undocumented residents vulnerable when it comes to their healthcare. We should sever the relationship between the school system and ICE. Children should have a safe space to learn and grow free of the fear of deportation.
Work to sever the relationship between the school system and ICE in order to ensure that every child, no matter their legal status, is guaranteed a safe space to learn and grow free of the fear of deportation.
Commit to supporting legislation that protects immigrant communities including the Safe Communities Act.
Support initiatives that provide driver’s licenses and municipal identification to immigrants regardless of document status.
Advocate for a clear pathway to legal work, comprehensive healthcare coverage, secondary education, and documentation for all immigrant residents.
